Okay...

I love Sherlock Holmes! I mean...he's a cool detective. Unlike the oh-so-popular Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys. For me, they're quite boring. Not the cases, but the characters. I mean, perfect characters are the most uninteresting. Holmes is not boring. He's a drug addict...was.

Okay. Point is: I watched Sherlock Holmes last (10th December) Sunday. Yeah... It was a good movie. That's saying something because I haven't seen one of those in ages. Ninja Assassin was okay... But it lacked story and character development. It was all about the blood, deadly blades and a bad ending.

I love Irene Adler. She's cunning, resourceful and clever. I know she only appeared in one of the S.H. stories, A Scandal in Bohemia. Okay... Let me say something... Men are stupid when it comes to girls. Look at Phantom of the Opera for one... Raoul and Erik want to kill each other for Christine! Though being a girl, I would be flattered to be in that position. ;-).

Okay...Anyway, the Sherlock Holmes in the movie was different from the one in the books. The movie showed his clumsy side. Not the usual stoic, proud and all-knowing Holmes. Oh, and understood some certain comments and remarks of the movie 'coz I read the entire series by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle back in 4th grade. :)

TRIVIA: The phrase "Elementary, my dear Watson." was never said by Holmes in the books. It was said in an old Holmes movie, the Triumph of Sherlock Holmes...If my memory serves me well.

I know this is quite short...but it's a school day. :) So, I'll make up to it next time....

Christmas is Giving Program

Our Christmas Program, December 18.

It was a bittersweet day if you ask me. Our last school activity for the entire year. The last day before the Christmas break. *sigh* Our last performance. I'm going to miss a lot of things.

I don't really know what to write. I just wanted to let it out that time is moving faster now. The year's ending...A few more months and we graduate. Add a few more and we're in high school.

The program officially started at 17:03 hours. It was a slow progress. I was the emcee at the middle of the program. Fail. Not really. Our batch's performance was at the end. It always was. As the saying goes "save the best for the last". Indeed.

After a few hours, the Street Dance Crew was about to perform. That's our cue, meaning, we assemble backstage. Unfortunately, in the middle of their performance, we experienced technical problems. The sound system shut down. Everyone then sprung into action, the teachers and technical crew were bustling about. The 6th graders were praying. And the audience were murmuring about. After, should I say, around half an hour, the sound system was back on. Unfortunately, the Crew won't continue their performance. Instead, we would go on with ours. Let the show begin. This is the Black Lights Theatre.

We performed "What A Wonderful World" and "Testify to Love" by Avalon. It was a relatively great performance. We did quite well. They said it was the best Black Lights performance they experienced. See, the school has this tradition that the graduating batch would always use Black Lights. So, that's good. That is our last performance.

I know this is short. I just wanted to write.

Finally.

I know I haven't been writing in awhile. But, I kept a journal to keep me sane. So, here only the latest updates on me.

Today (December 15th) is the last day of the third quarter!!! Just finished the last day of exams. Had Science, Math and lab. Math and Science took some time. Lab was just unbelievable. I could have sworn my brain was twitching with all the alien questions there. I'll pass. Live. Tomorrow, we have our Christmas party! And don't forget the Black Lights Theatre rehearsal!

After finishing the exams, I hung out with Nyx, Erebus, Artemis, Thanatos AKA Apollo and Hera. Yeah... We're using code names - Greek code names! As much as possible, we try to find code names that fit... or we choose one 'coz of its plain awesomeness.

Call me a geek, nerd, anti-social, loner, etc. I don't care! Greek mythology is incredible. Did you know that I write? Write as in novel-writing? Well, I do. I'm writing a "book" at the moment. But I think I'm gonna catch a break at it and write a "fanfiction". On what, you ask. Greek mythology of course! It's gonna be a twist in the tale of Hades and Persephone. A love story, I know. So not me. But I want to test my skills anyway.

And just in case you're wondering who, in the Greek world, I am, I'm Athena. Well, we thought using these names are safer, online and in school. Why Athena? Well, I'm smart and I make strategic plans. Well, she IS the goddess of wisdom and battle. We, as much as possible, try to find names that fit. But personally, I think I'm a mix of Athena, Apate, Eris, Praxidike, Nemesis, Nike, a daughter of Erebus, and a daughter of Apollo. I have a rather, complex personality.

The Competition, PSO - The National Finals and the Sudden Sleepover

PSO - The National Finals, September 26th, a Saturday

Today was the day The day we spent months studying for. Day of truth and revelations.

We were to meet in school at 7 am. I arrived there at around 7:12 am all because the people working in McDonald's were still frying my hash browns. We left two minutes later.

The trip was marked with silence, with a tense atmosphere. I was sipping my Hot Choco and thinking what would await this day. Jessey was silent. Sir was chatting with our principal.

We arrived at the SM Mall of Asia around 20 minutes later. We were greeted by strong winds hitting our faces, playing with our hair. We were greeted by Aiah a minute or two later. She didn't meet with us in school and just went straight ahead to the venue.

We waited for around 2 hours for the competition to start. The "stage" was small with chairs for the audience lined up. We ran out of seats. We just decided to sit on the stairs. The emcee then introduced somebody to speak for us, signaling the start of the Opening Program. He gave us a history lecture on the origins of the PSO. I expected something different though.

Let me skip that boring part.

The competition was to be held in the NIDO Fortified Science Discovery Centre. Formerly known as SM Science Discovery Centre.

We were to begin the competition. We were to have our Theoretical Exams first. That meant pencil and paper. Each category, Earth and Space Science, Life Science, Physical Science, Health and Basic I.T. would take 15 minutes each. Thus, having a total duration of 75 minutes.

That was a big challenge. We guessed in most. Life and Earth Science were the easiest ones here. Fifteen minutes later, we would begin the Practical Exams.

Again, the five categories would have a station each. Fifteen minutes per category, with a total duration of 75 minutes.

That was the hardest exam ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Identify which leaf is which. What!?!?! Copy everything in this paper as it is. With no mouse. OMG! The others were too complicated to remember. Physics was the easiest here though. The probinsyanos have an edge. :( We won't make it.

Lunch break. We went to Burger King and had lunch. We were then informed that there were floods everywhere. There was a storm named Ketsana - Ondoy, locally. Some were ankle-deep, knee-deep, waist-deep and neck-deep. Wow. Little did I know how this would affect us later on.

When we got back, they were about to announce who made it to the Grand Finals. We had already accepted our defeat since our competitors didn't look as distraught as we did. This school got in. They scream. Another school got in. They shout. Another school got it. We sulk. The Learning Tree got in. We screamed. It had a mind of it's own!

We headed to the Planetarium. Ten schools competing for the prize. And bragging rights.

What was that!?!?!?!?!? I've never felt so clueless and frustrated before.

Skip this humiliating part. We were the National Champions last year... :( (cry, cry, sob, sob)

We headed to Pizza Hut for supper. The school sponsored this one. We had Pepperoni and some other pizza. We received "reports" later on that roads had become impassable. I have to admit, I was quite excited. What if we get stranded? When will we get "rescued"? What will we do while waiting.? Questions spun around my head as a smile stretching from ear-to-ear tugged at my lips.

My mother then sent me a text message instructing me to buy some emergency necessities. I already had a toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste. I then excused myself, I told them my mother wanted me to buy some things. My principal then accompanied me to Watsons.

After I made my purchase, Mrs. Santos, Aiah's mother, came in and bought some emergency "supplies". I saw her getting bottles of water, toothbrushes, a tube of toothpaste. Soon, Mrs. Cortez, Jessey's mother, came in and did the same thing. I asked excitedly if we were "camping" here - in the mall. They replied, "Just in case."

We headed back to Pizza Hut. I had my water jugs refilled. Jugs not jug. My mother made me bring three types of drinks. Namely, coffee/frap, juice and good ol' H20. We then made our way back to the Discovery Centre.

Upon arrival, we made a head count and started the awarding ceremony. I felt quite disappointed during that time. I believe the consolation medals were just to make us feel better and a way to tell us, "You did your best. There's always a next time. :)". I felt miserable. Well, not really. Although I have to say, the medals this year were far better that last year's. Big improvement.

An announcement was then made that all roads in and out of MoA are impassable. They advised us to stay in the mall until the situation improves. The Science Discovery Centre would be remain open until then. The three of us (kids), looked at each other with satisfaction and excitement. Yes! Camping in the mall! How many of you can say that!?

We spent the rest of the night walking around, chatting, making trips to Krispy Kreme, watching this BORING video, the Magical Reef. We dozed off in the Planetarium, too. Aiah and I woke up a bit later to find Jessey missing. He was beside me when we entered the Planetarium. We left the Planetarium looking for him. We went to the Events Room, that's where the adults stayed to keep updated with the outside world through the Internet and the laptops the PSYSC staff brought. We told them Jessey was missing. None of them looked too worried - even his mother. He couldn't have left the Centre anyway.

I went to the comfort room and Aiah tagged along. The C.R. was weird. There were random facts about urine pasted all over the walls. One said that it was used for bathing or something. Done using the toilet, I headed towards the sink. I turned the faucet's lever. No water came out. I told Aiah and she said they probably cut the water supply. Luckily, I had a small bottle of Ethyl Alcohol. A girl came in and used the toilet. When she came out I told her they had cut the water supply and offered her some alcohol. We ended up chatting and hanging out the rest of the night/morning.

After going around for like two hours, we headed to the Planetarium. Chatting and all. Illana, the girl we met, came in after us. She sat a level lower than ours, mine and Aiah's. We started chatting about random things. Oh, and Jessey, who had been missing for like two hours, turned out to be sleeping on Illana's level, on his chest, taking up three seats. He woke up a bit later and we started talking about Biohazard aka Resident Evil. We wondered if we could watch the DVD that I had borrowed from a schoolmate that was in my bag because Jessey brought it with him. We made our way out of the Planetarium and to the Events Room. Jessey asked one of the PSYSC guys if we could watch a DVD. The guy lent us a laptop. Yeah! Biohazard/Resident Evil: Degeneration!

That was an awesome movie. I love Claire's trick with the gun. The bloopers were so hilarious! Claire's Flare was the best! I'll post a link at the end of this entry. People were dying outside and we were safe sleeping in the mall. This is getting too long. Please bear with me. I'll make it as short as possible.

Long story - short.

Illana left some time after the movie. After they handed out free Krispy Kreme, we decided to leave as well. We left the mall at 5:30 in the morning of Sunday, September 27th. We stayed in the mall for 22 hours and 30 minutes.

The Competition, PSO - National Eliminations

The National Eliminations, September 5th, a Saturday

Today was the day. The day we've been studying for. The day we were waiting for. The National Finals. Dun-dun. Today was the National Finals of the PSYSC Philippine Science Olympiad. We, Aiah (ilovebaconandeggs.blogspot.com) and Jessey (pathologylover.blogspot.com) and myself, were going to participate in the National Finals. We were supposed to meet in our school at 9 am. From there, we would head to Angelicum College, the testing site.

When we arrived in Angelicum, Sir Ryan, our coach(dontwishimyourguru.blogspot.com),was missing his mobile phone. Aiah and I were snickering about that.
When we were at the registrar, we saw some rather, familiar names. We were given fair warning though. Our former classmates and schoolmates were in the same competition. Though we were rather surprised that they qualified.

Entering school grounds, we ran into the familiar name-bearers. Our classmate from last year, Job, my classmate in pre-school, Jeah, and a former student at my school, Paolo. We said our greetings, his and hellos. I wouldn't say we were happy to see them though.

Sir talked to us about what to be wary of and how we should act during the test. We listened, and obeyed. We then went to the souvenir section and bought pins :D. We then decided to have lunch early rather than late. It was 10.30 am. The exam was supposed to start at 11.30 am.

We went to the canteen looking for a place to sit. Another student of our school, Ponsi(?), saw a Php20 bill. He picked it up, looked at it then dropped it. O.O I saw the Php20 bill lying on the floor. Aiah and I were staring at it for 12 seconds then I finally picked it up. Aiah said, "Hati tayo. (Let's split.)" I agreed. Hey, it's still Php10. :D When we were "rejoicing" about our find Jessey said that the 20 was his. Aiah and I doubted him at first but then Sir Ryan vouched for him. Saying he was counting his money when it fell. Fine. We let him keep it. T_T

We found a place to sit and brought out our lunches. My mother bought me McDonald's chicken and rice, Aiah had her mother's adobo, Sir bought spaghetti, and Jessey bought sisig. Aiah ate from Jessey's sisig, too. I've never eaten sisig.

We returned to the gym, the place where the orientation was. We were given our room assignments and the tests were about to start.

We were assigned to the "DepEd Room". We seated ourselves one seat apart, even before we were instructed to do so. The test was composed of 100 items, 20 questions in each category, Life Science/Biology, Physical Science, Health, Earth and Space Science, and Basic IT. There were also two sets of clincher questions, each composed of five questions each. The clinchers were only to be used in the case of a tie. Mobiles off. Two hours, 110 items.

I was taking the test and I finally finished. I spent around 45 minutes on the test. Time to review my answers. We, the team, agreed to make the most of the two hours. We would stay there reviewing and reviewing. I started to get lazy in between my reviews. I would occasionally glance to my left to see what my team mates are doing. Aiah was reviewing. Jessey was -good grief - is he sleeping!?!?! O.O We agreed to keep on reviewing! 58 minutes. The clock was ticking. Slowly. Very slowly. I kept on reviewing. Our proctor was writing reminder, notes, time and such on the white board. Majority of the class stood up and passed their papers. Even Jessey. I was thinking What!?. I thought we had an agreement. They left the room. Aiah and I were the only ones left. I sighed. sigh* I started packing my things and she did the same. We passed our papers, and left the cold room.

Sir Ryan greeted us outside. Jessey and our principal was there with Ponsi. I asked Jessey what he was doing in there and he said he was sleeping. Aiah admitted to poking his head with a pencil. We all agreed that the test was on a moderate scale. For Aiah and I, Earth & Space Science was the easiest and Basic IT was for Jessey.

Now it started, the long wait. The exam was scheduled to end at 13:30 but we finished at 1300 hours. The announcement for those who qualified for the National Finals were scheduled to be announced at 1600 hours. We settled just outside the gym. There was shade, food and drinks. I brought out my deck of cards and Aiah and I started to play Pusoy Dos. Jessey was playing with my PSP, Sir, Ma'am and Ponsi went somewhere. We've been playing for some time when Sir and Jessey joined us. Jessey had beginners luck and Sir was good. He beat us with a full house. After 2 games, a security guard came and told us that card games were prohibited in the school. Darn. We were having a good game. For the next hours we were so bored.

We were listening to music on our mobiles, playing the PSP, and Jessey was running around, climbing trees like he was out of his mind.

Long story-short. We headed to the gym and waited for hours. In total, we waited for FIVE hours. They tried to entertain us by playing movies, games and the like. They were waiting for the results of Davao and Butuan.

The announcements... They were announcing the names of the schools who got scores from lowest to highest. There were 24 participating schools in the NCR. Names, names and names and ours has not been called out. Then, "And the top scorer in the NCR is The Learning Tree." Screams! Good golly did I hear that right? Our school got the highest score! We were screaming and texting and calling relatives and friends. Ahhh!!!!!!!!!!

We were so happy!!!

The suspense wasn't over yet. We still didn't know if we qualified for the top twenty schools nation wide. They announced it later and we placed 4th of over a hundred schools nation wide with a score of 182! The highest there score there was was 195. Aiah was even awarded for being the top individual scorer in the NCR, 72 points. Screams, texting happened all over again. We were just so proud and happy!

We headed out. To Starbucks. Our principal promised to treat us there if we qualified. While walking out, Aiah and I asked Sir,"Sir, why are we in the team?" "There are others who get really high marks.", added Aiah. "It isn't the class participation. It isn't the grades. It's what I see in you." Uggghhh..."Sir, we're touched!" He just laughed.

We got to Starbucks. On the way, we found out that Jessey's mom is my father's friend that he met in church. Aiah's dad is my father's brother's former batch mate in the Philippine Military Academy. Small world.

Please pray for me and my teammates, Aiah (ilovebaconandeggs.blogspot.com) and Jessey, in our competition this September 5th. This is Aiah's 2nd competition held by PSYSC (Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs) and Jessey's first competition (besides Scrabble). We would be composing our school's PSO (Philippine Science Olympiad) Team. This competition is sponsored by the PSYSC (Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs)This competition is held in recognition of the national Science clubbing month of September. The Gimmick

Okay...

We only had two days of classes! Heck, we didn't have classes for three days! The 19th was Quezon City Day, the 20th was a school holiday or something like that, and the 21st was the death anniversary of Benigno Aquino, an assassinated patriot, Benigno Aquino Day. So we had a FIVE-day weekend!

Abbey had been planning for a gimmick. She had been planning about going t the mall, watch UP, got to her house, swim and watch some DVDs. She was very excited about this one and has been talking about it, inviting people and planning the activities. She planned it on the 20th, a Thursday. From what I know, she had invited 9 people. Two of them were teachers. :|

The 20th came and my mother brought me to the mall, SM The Block. Originally, the meeting place was supposed to be in TriNoma. Then, it was changed to Gateway and changed once again to The Block. When I arrived at the mall, I saw Manette and Abbey there. When I greeted them I was surprised to learn that there were only the three of us in the planned gimmick. It went something like...

Me: What!?
Abbey:Yup.
Me: What happened to the other people?
Abbey: They canceled and Kaye got grounded this morning.

Okay... I bid my mother good-bye and so the three of us and Abbey's driver went around. We first went to McDonald's and ordered "breakfast". Abbey and Manette ordered regular fries and I ordered twister fries and a root beer float. We went around the mall for the next hour. First, we went to Toy Kingdom looking at otaku stuff like otaku magazines and anime/manga action figures. We then went to Fully Booked and looked at manga. I realized, by looking at my watch, that it was already 11:20 am. I notified them and we hurried to the movie theatre, we had previously bought tickets. We entered the theatre, but the movie was already starting. We missed the start but quickly picked up on the movie. I expected the movie to be rather childish and boring. I was proven wrong. It wasn't an amazing movie but it was worth watching. Rather nice I should say. When the movie ended, Abbey received this call and said we should head to her house. We were talking in the car about random things. Upon arrival at her house, we were offered lunch. We declined saying that we were already satisfied with our appetites. Abbey and Manette had eaten popcorn during the movie. We entered Abbey's room and it was way different from my room. There was a globe rolling on the floor, I had a map folded and tucked in the drawer of my desk. Her laptop was on her bed, mine was on my desk. She had 4?5? pillows, I only need two. Papers littered her desk and bed while my papers were neatly stored in labeled folders or were neatly hidden in my desk. No offense meant. Her writing utensils were in one container, mine were in one organizer divided into four sections. These sections were labeled "Pencils", "Ball pens","Markers" and "Others", respectively. The "Others" were for erasers, tape and the like. Again, no offense meant.

What I'm trying to say is, we have our differences (a lot of them), but we can get along.

We watched YouTube videos, talked, conversed on our schedule for today and watched a DVD. I had brought Phantom of the Opera and Spirited Away. We decided to watch the latter because none of them had ever heard of it.

Spirited Away(千と千尋の神隠し Sen to Chihiro no Kamkakushi, lit. Sen and Chihiro's Spiriting Away) is a Japanese animated film written and directed by famed animator Hayao Miyazaki (宮崎駿 Miyazaki Hayao), produced by Studio Ghibli. The film views a sullen ten-year-old girl in the middle of her family's move to a new town, presumably the countryside, and her adventures in a world of spirits and monsters.

Abbey was squealing "Yihee! Sobrang cheesy!"(Yihee! So cheesy!/So sweet!) Whenever there was a "scene" between Haku and Sen. We dubbed her as the "Romantically Desperate" or something like that. Manette was dubbed as the "Silent-but-not-really-one" and Kaye could have been "The Squealer", she is very expressive. And I was dubbed the "Serious One". Amazing. As expected (I hoped) they liked it. Abbey told me to bring the DVD again next time.

They went swimming after that. I didn't because I had been infected by a virus; I had a cold. They were swimming, talking, and splashing water at me. Around 30 minutes later they dried up and we headed to Abbey's house.

When they finished showering, we were on the computer again. That's when I made my blog. We ate supper after that. It was spaghetti. T_T

After that, we flipped through channels looking for something to watch. We saw this anime but didn't understand the story. We watched the ending of Phantom of the Opera. instead. They already watched the beginning at school but didn't finish the movie. I watched the film a hundred times already. Though I didn't mind watching it again.

That was our last activity. Manette left at 7 o'clock and I left just a minute after.

Starting Out

Hmmm.... A blog?

I first asked myself about a blog. Me? Making a blog? Write about myself, what's happening in my life and post it on the internet for the world to see? No. I was thinking about that for some time. Eventually, two people that I know of, Stupid Toothpick and ANIME ADDICTED EMO GIRL X3, started their own blogs. They had a rather, should I say, strange reason for making a blog. You can read it in their blogs: breakthestupidtoothpick.blogspot.com and dontgetmemadorelse.blogspot.com. After reading their posts (Which, I must say, were quite similar since they're usually together.), I then decided to make a web log myself. Then it hit me. What am I going to call it...?

When we got together in school (or were we chatting online?) they were talking about blogs. The Stupid Toothpick(?) asked if I wanted to make a blog. I answered that I've been thinking about it; only, I don't know what to call it.

The days after that they've been asking me about my progress concerning my blog. "Still can't think of anything good.", that's my answer. I asked for ideas on what to call it. I told them some thing that describes my character. They identified me as "precise, silent - not too out-going, a perfectionist, creepy, vampire-ish, (too) serious, creepy etc."

We were in the school canteen when Kaye (Stupid Toothpick) was saying "creepy.", I suddenly remembered that a classmate of mine called me a perfectionist. Her classmate, Gina, blurted out "Creepy Perfectionist". We laughed at that one. But, as you can read, that's what I chose since they said it was good and I already wanted a blog. Kaye had other suggestions like "Gloomy Girl" and "Dream Girl" - that was my shirt.

The origin of my URL has a similar story.

I was tapping my keyboard one night when I was thinking of what my classmates say about me. Hmmm.... Jotham says, See?You always prove me wrong! Lizzie says, "Hey person who always proves you wrong." Obviously from Jotham. What does my seatmate,Jessey, say? "Hm. Perfectionist." Perfectionist? Always proves you wrong? Not always. I then found myself typing iproveyouwrong.blogspot.com

The next day in school I told them about the URL thing they also suggested iproveyouwrong.blahblahblah... I told them I was thinking about that last night. They simply nodded and said "That's good."

When I actually made the blog, last Thursday, I was debating whether it would be iCANproveyouwrong or my original idea. I was in Abbey's (ANIME ADDICTED EMO GIRL X3) house that time. Manette, who was also there, backed up my first choice.
